Building Apps for a Million Daily Users: What We Learned
Maximus Technologies started in 2018 with a handful of people in Islamabad and one shared goal: build apps that make everyday life a little easier. Today more than a million people open our apps every day. Getting there changed how we think about almost every part of product development.
Small problems become big ones
A bug that affects 0.1% of users sounds minor until you do the maths. At a million daily users, that is a thousand people having a bad experience today. So we treat crash reports, slow screens and confusing flows as real user problems, not as statistics.
Performance is a feature
Many of our users are on mid-range Android phones and mobile data. An app that feels fast on a flagship device in the office can feel sluggish on a three-year-old phone on a weak connection. We test on the kind of devices our users actually carry, keep app sizes small, and make sure the important screens work even when the network does not.
Listen before you build
Reviews, support emails and in-app feedback are the most honest product roadmap we have. By 2021 we had received more than ten thousand pieces of feedback, and a large share of our improvements since then started as a user telling us what was not working.
Ship in small steps
Big releases are risky. We roll out changes gradually, watch how they behave in the real world, and keep the ability to roll back. That lets us move quickly without putting a million people's experience on the line with every update.
What stays the same
Scale changed our process, but not our reason for doing this. Every app still starts with the same question we asked in 2018: will this genuinely make someone's day better?
